Klipper Bed Screw Tilt & SCREWS_TILT_CALCULATE Converter

Convert Klipper SCREWS_TILT_CALCULATE clock-face outputs (e.g. CW 01:15) into exact rotation degrees and physical Z millimeter adjustments for M3, M4, and M5 screws.

Klipper SCREWS_TILT_CALCULATE Converter

Converts Klipper's clock-face notation (e.g. CW 01:15) to physical degrees and millimeters of screw turn.

Turn screw Clockwise by 1 full rotation + 15 min (total 450°) to adjust height by 0.875 mm.

Remember: Clockwise (CW) turns tighten the screw and pull the bed downward away from the nozzle. Counter-Clockwise (CCW) turns loosen the spring and push the bed upward closer to the nozzle.

Measurement & Operating Instructions

STEP 01

1. Run SCREWS_TILT_CALCULATE in Klipper

Execute the command in your Klipper console with heated bed at operating temperature (60°C for PLA).

STEP 02

2. Paste or Enter Screw Output

Paste the output line (e.g. "front right screw : CW 01:15") or select direction and enter turns.

STEP 03

3. Turn Leveling Thumbwheels

Adjust the physical thumbwheel by the calculated degrees. CW turns tighten (lower bed), CCW turns loosen (raise bed).

Klipper Bed Screw Tilt Angle & Pitch Trigonometry

Translates Klipper SCREWS_TILT_CALCULATE clock-face outputs into precise rotational degrees and physical vertical bed deflection.

Height Delta (mm) = (Clock Minutes / 60) × Thread Pitch (mm) | Degrees = (Clock Minutes / 60) × 360°
Real-World Worked Benchmark:

A Klipper report of "CW 01:15" on an M4 screw (0.7mm pitch): Total clock time = 75 minutes = 1.25 turns. Rotation = 1.25 × 360° = 450° (1 full turn + quarter turn). Bed lowering displacement = 1.25 × 0.7mm = 0.875 mm.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does CW (Clockwise) raise or lower the 3D printer bed?
On standard right-hand threaded screws (M3/M4/M5), turning the thumbwheel Clockwise when looking from below tightens the screw against the spring, pulling the bed DOWNWARD away from the nozzle.
What screw thread size does my printer bed use?
Most Creality, Elegoo, and Sovol printers use M3 or M4 bed leveling screws. Prusa and Voron builds typically use M4 screws (0.7mm pitch).
How do I use Klipper's SCREWS_TILT_CALCULATE command?
Configure [screws_tilt_adjust] in printer.cfg with your probe coordinates over each bed screw. Run SCREWS_TILT_CALCULATE after homing; Klipper probes each point and outputs exact clockwise or counter-clockwise wheel turns.
What does CW 01:15 mean in Klipper bed screw output?
It represents clock face notation: turn the screw Clockwise by 1 hour and 15 minutes (or 75 minutes total out of 60, which equals 1.25 full turns, or 450 degrees of rotation).
Why does adjusting one bed screw affect the other three corners?
The heated build plate is a rigid flat plane supported by springs. Tightening one corner acts as a pivot, tilting the diagonal corner upwards. Always perform a second verification pass after adjusting all four screws.
