About 3D Calcs
Precision 3D Printing Calculators & Tools
Why We Built 3dcalcs.com
3D printing is an engineering discipline governed by tolerances, thermodynamics, kinematics, and material properties. Yet too often, makers, designers, and small print-farm operators are forced to rely on fragmented forum posts, dead spreadsheets, or bloated sites burdened with pop-up ads and registration walls.
We engineered 3dcalcs.com as an open, high-speed, client-side calculation engine. Every tool executes directly inside your browser in microseconds, requires zero logins, and respects your privacy by never transmitting proprietary CAD geometry, G-code toolpaths, or commercial quoting records to a server.
Data Sources & Technical Methodology
Our calculator formulas, material densities, and hardware presets are grounded in manufacturer technical documentation, open-source slicer profiles (OrcaSlicer, Bambu Studio, PrusaSlicer), and verified community measurements:
- Wattage & Electrical Estimates: Machine power draws (standby, bed heating, and active extrusion) are compiled from manufacturer technical specifications, teardowns, and community smart plug telemetry. We differentiate between peak warmup power and steady-state printing draw.
- Filament Densities & Spool Tare Weights: Derived from manufacturer Technical Data Sheets (TDS / MSDS) and verified polymer densities (ISO 1183). Empty spool tare weights are compiled from user-submitted scale measurements across leading brands (Bambu Lab, Prusament, Polymaker, eSun, Hatchbox).
- Kinematics & Firmware Math: Calibration equations for stepper motors, rotation distance, gear ratios, and input shaping resonance filters follow upstream Klipper and Marlin documentation.
- Tolerances & Fasteners: Hole clearances and pilot hole dimensions for heat-set inserts follow ISO metric standards and manufacturer engineering drawings (Ruthex, McMaster-Carr).
About the Creator & Editorial Policy
3D Calcs was built by Sridip Mondal, a software engineer and 3D printing enthusiast, to replace slow, ad-cluttered calculator websites with clean, client-side, developer-grade utilities. All tools are open, ad-light, and designed to help makers, Etsy print businesses, and prototyping studios get accurate numbers quickly.
Our Operating Commitments
- 100% Client-Side Privacy: All CAD files, STL polygon meshes, G-code files, and financial estimates stay on your device.
- Transparent Math: Every calculator displays the exact mathematical formula, worked examples, and underlying engineering assumptions.
- Zero Paywalls: Full access to all 22 calculators, Web Serial printer controls, 3D viewers, and hardware databases without requiring an account.
